Bike Frames

If you’re looking to build or purchase a bike, then the frame may be the most important decision you make. Above all, the frame should fit you. Bike frames that are the wrong size for you will cause discomfort and result in you not being able to reach your full potential when pedaling.

Many people ride a bike that is too tall or short for them – if you stand straddling the bike frame with your feet flat on the ground you should have at least a few inches of clearance. You may require more or less depending on your size and the type of bike. This measurement, the distance between the ground and the top tube, is called the stand-over height. If it is too high you will not be able to reach the ground when seated on the bike; too low, and you will experience difficulty pedaling.

If a bike’s stand-over height fits you well, the next thing you’ll need to look at is your riding position on it – unfortunately there are not a lot of hard and fast rules to govern seat position and top tube length – you’ll most likely have to take a test ride to determine if you’re a good fit for the bike frame. Any discomfort or pain should indicate a problem. When choosing bike parts, always make sure you purchase quality products, you will depend on them to work properly and not break. .
